Hey, Root Kickers, Trail Slappers, and Forest Jogging Enthusiasts,
Just wanted to interrupt your Sunday with some Springtime Muddy Shoes announcements. Winter is rapidly fading away and it’s time to start looking forward to the upcoming Muddy Shoes Trail season. So, let’s go over what’s coming up. Sit back and relax, and read on.
First off, many of you had a great time hitting the single-track this past Winter with the Winter Trail Program (WTP). Many thanks to all the coaches but particularly Coaches Audrey, Mike C. and K.Mike for being out there in all sorts of weather and conditions, making sure everyone was safe and happy on the trails! But with the program ending those of you who still want to slap your feet on some dirt in the woods, can come out and run with Muddy Shoes.
OK. As I was saying, here are some announcements:
- Spring/Summer Saturday Trail Runs – With Winter Trails winding down at the end of the month Muddy Shoes will take over the Saturday runs starting April 6th and continuing on through until next December when Winter Trails starts up again. We’ll be hitting a number of trails that you might be familiar with, some maybe not so much. These runs are open to all paces and abilities. Refreshments will be provided (remember the ice cold mini-cokes and pickle chips?) We will also provide free comments and opinions on your running style, outfits and personality, mostly when you are not even around! While these runs are free, we gladly accept donations in the form of your hard-earned cash (No NFTs or bitcoin) so we can keep the runs going. 😊
- Last year Muddy Shoes took over the Farm Park Challenge Endurance Event and Trail Marathon for its twelfth running. Kudos and salutations to the most honorable and esteemed trail poohbah, Daryl Hultquist who created this event and directed it for the first 11 years. My Race Co-Director extroadinaire Leah Kauffman and myself are already deep in the planning stages for this year’s event to be held on May 4th. Go ahead and say it, Trekkie Nerds…May the 4th be with you! Wookie that! It’s filling up fast! Don’t wait. Find out more about it and register to run or volunteer here: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=109112
- Muddy Shoes Swag – Be cool, Fool! Well, you can only be cool wearing some Muddy Shoes swag. We got Muddy Shoes baseball caps ($15), Buffs ($10) and reusable collapsible cups ($5). Getb yours and become a fashionista on the trails!
- Tuesdays and Thursdays – throughout the year we have regular evening trail runs every Tuesday with Coach Phil (Redland M.S. in Winter; Lake Needwood in Summer) and every Thursday at Cabin John Regional Park with Coach Gretchen. Every run is announced.
- Fat Ass Events – This refers to a type of running event, not your derriere! Fat ass runs are kind of a loosely organized trail race with no time being kept, no awards handed out, just trail running, eating, drinking and post-run mingling. We have two – One in the Summer led by Coach Mike C. and won in November the week before Stone Mill hosted by Coach Robin. Great fun!
- Stone Mill Preview Runs – Speaking of the Stone Mill 50 miler, Muddy Shoes hosts the Stone Mill course preview runs during the month of October. We take the 50 mile course and over four weekends we hold a course preview of a different section of the course so you know what’s coming. Do all 4 runs and you will have seen the whole Stone Mill course.
- 10 year anniversary things – Did I mention that 2024 is the 10 year anniversary of Muddy Shoes. We’ll do some things to commemorate (maybe t-shirts!). Stay tuned!
That’s all I have to tell ya for now. Keep checking back to see what fun stuff we are doing.
Cheers,
Coach Phil
