OK Mud Chuckers,
Get ready for the My Muddy Shoes Summer Trail Series – Run #8 this Saturday! We have a great one planned on some sweeeeeet MoCo single track.
This week we head up-county to the Northern reaches of the Seneca Greenway Trail environs. This will include an out-n-back leg on the Goshen Branch Trail which will take you out to the turnaround point.
Now, Saturday is going to be hot. I mean ‘no kidding’ kinda hot. It will be almost 80 degrees when we start and by 10 a.m. it’s going to feel like it’s 91. Not a single one of you are acclimated to that kind of heat at this point of the season. You might be by the end of July or early August, but not right now. Sooooo….make sure you hydrate like crazy the night before (No. Margharitas are not considered to be a good hydration source!) and during your run. TMI factoid – the darker your urine, the more dehydrated you are. We’ll be doing a pee check before the run…kidding! Urine good company with this group! (pssst! That’a pun! Get it?)
My advice, use electrolytes. Whether it’s a powder mix, liquid or a capsule, use them!
Also, don’t push it. It’s not a race. Get your miles in and be happy with that. We don’t need anyone to get heat stroke or worse. This will be a good acclimatization run moving forward into Summer.
Lastly, please keep an eye on each other. If you see someone who needs assistance, please take care of them.
BTW, the 5thAnnual Muddy Shoes Summer Fat Ass Run is 16 July in Seneca Creek State Park. Mark your calendars!
