Labor Day Long Run-Log House Road South-Saturday

Labor Day Long Run-Log House Road South-Saturday

Nothing like a nice long trail run to start off a three day weekend, right? I think so! So, therefore, I proclaim, not that that means s#&t but it sounds official, that we run on the Greenway Saturday morning. We’ll meet up at Log House Road and head South on the Greenway. One of my favorite runs (just like all the others!) How far? Up to you. Its an out’n’back. Creek crossing? Yes, indeed! Twice! Lower temps? Uh-huh! Thanks Mother Nature! Good vibe? Of course! We’ll have the tribe vibe going! Ya see, I can’t find a reason not to slap on your mud-encrusted, stinkin’ trail shoes and join a bunch of other odiferous, foul-mouthed, irreverant trail dogs such as your bad-ass self for some awesome hours in the woods . Sooo, lets talk details:

Snow Flurry Tuesday Trail Run@ Needwood

Yeah, right! Ain’t no snow flurries in this neck of the woods! Not even a flake, I’m sorry to say. But, I know that sometime in January or February, when we are out on the trails suffering in the freezing cold someone is going to say “Man, I could sure go for one of those August 90+ degree days right now”. Well, get over it. Its hot and we are running this evening. Period.
Need I remind everyone that you should be sucking down H2O all day. You’ve got a bladder. Use it! Worse case all those fluids will lead to frequent potty breaks which will get you out of those booooooring meetings, right? I’m trying to look on the bright side.
Details for tonight:
Location: 15679 Needwood Lake Cir, Derwood, MD
GPS Coordinates: 39.114637, -77.127564
Time: 6:30 (6:15 for warm-up)
Course: We will run around the lake counter-clockwise, hit the Blue Jay Loop, out’n’back on Beaver Tale Trail, down the West side of the lake, hill repeats on Adie’s Hill.

Low Humidity Saturday Trail Run-Meadowside Nature Center

Hey Trail Doggies,

We are going back to Meadowside! Whoop Whoop!!! Haven’t had the group there in quite a while. Need to reconnect to our roots…quite literally. And, guess what! We will be slapping our dirty, stinkin’ feet on some new trail! Seems that there has been some trail work going on out there. I ran most of it last week and it is awesome! Worth exploring. We’ll hit some of the old single-track at Meadowside before we head out under the ICC and pick up the new trail. I can barely contain myself!!!! One more surprise – I spoke with Mother Nature and…well, OK, didn’t actually SPEAK to her but I did send her a text, anyway, she promised low humidity and nice temps. Maybe she will even sprinkle some mushrooms along the route for our foraging pleasure (speaking of which I found about 2 pounds of Oyster mushrooms there last week…nom nom nom).

Please read the announcements below. Lots of stuff coming up this Fall!

OK. Details for Saturday:

Location: Meadowside Nature Center
Address: 5100 Meadowside Ln, Rockville, MD 20855
Coords: 39.113694, -77.106480

***Location Change…Again…*** Saturday Long Run – Rachel Carson Conservation Park

Hey Folks,

Sorry for the change but if you ‘ve never run these trails you are in for a treat. Seriously, its a great place to run. Bunch of wooded (mostly) trails that keep going back to the parking lot so you can keep going or bail anytime. We always start out this run with a visit to Sasquatch’s Cave for a group photo op (hopefully Sasquatch won’t be there!) and for the adventerous we might try to cross over Georgia Avenue to see if we can get to the Hawlings River Stream Valley Park where Tony John finally was able to punch through the woods to Rachel Carson. Might need a machete! Either way its a guaranteed good place to run.

Details:
Location: Rachel Carson Conservation Park 22201 Zion Road, Olney, MD 20833
Coords: 39.219965, -77.085566
Time: 0730
Course: Loop-Di-Loops

Tuesday Evening Trail Run @ Needwood

So, as you see in the picture there is a fungus among us. Well, not really…although my trails shoes sure do smell like some kind of spores are growing in there. But it is Summer. And with that we have heat and humidity which is a great environment for things to grow in the woods…like mushrooms. We’ll hit the trails again today with our ever watchful eyes open to see if we can spot any shrooms growing along the trail. As some of you know its been a bountiful year for harvesting those delectable fungi while we run…oysters, chanterelle’s, boletus… Quite delicious. So, gather at Needwood and we’ll seewhere the trails take us tonight!

***LOCATION CHANGE – Muddy Shoes Summer Long Run # 12 – Gold Mine Loop

Hey Root Slappers,
I’m switching up on ya. We will be running the Gold Mine Loop on Saturday. Awesome trails with some awesome views and some awesome history behind ’em. Yes, there actually was a gold mine up in them thar hills. We actually run by it on the Gold Mine Loop (Hey, maybe thats where they got the name, ya think?) But we won’t be digging up any nuggets. No panning for gold. No canary in a gold mine. Hopefully no cave ins! Just gettin’ in the miles as we usually do. These trails do have some hills which is good prep for HEAT Race. Weather folks say there will be showers about so don’t forget your running umbrella. Just kidding, we don’t run with umbrellas, now, do we? We embrace the precip! Enjoy the moisture!
NOTE – Sometimes it is crowded at this location. Carpool if possible and don’t be late. DO NOT park along shoulder of MacArthur Blvd – you WILL get a ticket.
