Wear your galoshes and goggles! Its going to be a splasher! But, for gnarly bad-ass trail runners like yourselves, when has moisture been a problem? Ok,ok, I know the whole sweat-chafing-moisture thingy but I’m talking about moisture from out of the sky. We lot that s*#t! Right. Remember how you used to get yelled at for playing in the rain and mud? Me too! Now, we call it exercise. Go figure. Sooooo, lets do it. Head to Needwood for a splishy-splash on the traily-trails. (Pssst…BTW don’t really wear galoshes or goggles. You’ll look stupid! Just sayin’)

*** POSTPONED – Tuesday Trail Run at Needwood ***

*** POSTPONED – Tuesday Trail Run at Needwood ***

As most of you know the Parks Dept has closed all natural surface trails in Montgomery County until Friday. Due to that fact I am postponing our Tuesday evening run this week. Sadness. But, don’t want to get on the bad side of the parks folks and don’t want to damage the trails. We will resume next Tuesday!

Stay muddy, my friends!

Coach Phil

The 3rd Annual Bobwhite Fatass Trail Festival is TOMORROW!

Hey Tree Slappers,
OMG!
And, no Bobwhite is not some legendary trail hero. Nope. Its not a person, just a bird. And a fatass is not referring to large human posteriors (butts!). Its just a term for a low-key trail run. Although I have seen some folks that have…uh, nevermind…
Come join us (MyMuddyShoes) at Seneca Creek State Park for this low-key annual trail event! We reserved the Bobwhite pavilion for the whole day on July 21st. Fat Ass Director Mike Chau has worked the distances that range from 7-ish to 20-ish miles just like previous years. You are free to do whatever distance you want. Stay afterwards to hang out and enjoy some grilling and bevs!
We currently have over 50 trailies going to the event. Thats a record! Be part of Muddy Shoes history!
Please RSVP so we can properly plan how much water and munchables to bring (go to Bobwhite Fatass facebook page) . Also feel free to bring snacks/food/beverages to share with the group!
Who can come?
This is open to all. Please feel free to share with your friends.
It’s free (but donations to Muddy Shoes gratefully accepted!) but please RSVP. There is a $3 entrance fee to the park. 🙂
Location: Seneca Creek State Park, Bobwhite Pavilion
Coords: 39.140499, -77.255217
Time: Park opens at 8am. We will start running at 8:30am
Be prompt!

Summer Long Run #9 – Black Hill Regional Park

So, the weekend is here once again. Seems to roll by about this time every week. Hmmm, whaddya think about that? Well, I think that means “LONG RUN”! Yessiree! We’ll be hittin’ the single track on Saturday like we always do. This week we’ll be slappin’ our feet on the awesome trails of Black Hill Regional Park. Park at the usual location. This is a loop course of roughly 5-ish miles or so. You can repeat as much as you’d like. For MD HEAT training purposes three loops would fit in to the plan to get in around 15 miles. Do a fourth loop if you are training for something longer. Or, just come out and do a couple so you stay fit. Your choice.

Trail Tuesday (Once Again!) @ Lake Needwood

Well, this should just be a great day for hitting the trails of Lake Needwood. Might be a little warm but nothing like we withered through last week. None-the-less, hydrate like crazy today. We are into July and we will have more heat coming, for sure, so getting into the hydrating habit is worth while. Plus, the more you hydrate throughout the day, the more you have an excuse to get out of those boring meetings at work (‘Scuse me, I gotta pee, Boss!) Win-Win for you!

Heat Index Tuesday Trail Run – Lake Needwood

Well, Trailies, it’s gonna be a scorcher out there today. High heat. High humidity. No surprise here in the DC metro area but also nothing to be messed with. If you plan on running today you should be chugging water right now. Also keep your electrolytes on the intake all day as well. Keep the effort down. You can still exercise but don’t do anything crazy…well, I forget I’m talking to an odiferous bunch of rock kickers who routinely do ‘crazy’ stuff. That being said…be smart. We will do a run around Needwood this evening. Here are the details:

Location: 15679 Needwood Lake Cir, Derwood, MD
GPS Coordinates: 39.114637, -77.127564
Time: 6:30 (6:15 for warm-up)
Course: We will run around the lake clockwise across the dam, out’n’back on Beaver Tale Trail, then back to parking lot. Hill repeats on Potty Hill if you need them.
